Stunning views of architectural treasures and of the surrounding hills may be enjoyed from the large terrace and from every window. Very bright. This historic palazzo in Piazza Santa Croce contains totally up-to-date apartments in central Florence, Italy. Not only are the furnishings luxurious, the views over the piazza to the handsome medieval church are breathtaking. Each apartment features its own historic atmosphere with Renaissance murals, family heirloom antiques, and talented decorating. Many guests spend the season here, returning year after year.

Location

Conveniently located in the heart of the historical center of Florence, in Piazza Santa Croce, the palazzo is a landmark Renaissance Palazzo, and one of the few left in the historic center of Florence with a dramatic frescoed facade.

During late May thru late June there is noise in the piazza related to the Calico Storico, historic soccer matches. Late May is bleacher set up, June is practices and matches. If you can catch any of the play-offs (dates not advised in advance) or the final on June 24th, you'll get a lifetime treat and the "best seat in the house". We were astounded when we watched a game from this palazzo. For more information look up Calcio Storico on YouTube or Netflix Home Game series Episole 1.

Exterior

Many people passing through Piazza Santa Croce notice Giovanni di Ser Giovanni`s 1620 frescoes on the overhanging facade this handsome building, but few realize they can actually stay here. The 16th-century palazzo is owned by the gracious Contessa Piccolomini, who rents out truly spacious apartments to anyone who has ever dreamed of lying in bed near a roaring fire under a 17th-century frescoed ceiling or sipping tea in a living room surrounded by trompe d`oeil Roman ruins with a 16th-century wood ceiling above.

Piazza Santa Croce is a traffic free square but the people going through the square in the evenings may be noisy. Piazza Santa Croce is the site of occasional events. Watching the Calcio Storico in June (soccer in costumes see photos) from the Palazzo is an exciting privilege. The Christmas Market is fun, too. Other events can include theater, music concerts and ceremonies that you may enjoy or find noisy or both! Most of these events appear on the calendar fairly late, but you can check on this site www.firenzetoday.it/eventi/. Ask us for help.

Interior

Fifth-floor (North American) penthouse, with elevator.

The living room has a casually elegant feel because it its high ceilings and architectural details. You have to love the terrace where you can enjoy the Tuscan sun and watch the activity in the Piazza Santa Croce.

The living/dining room with working fireplace retains the structure and the columns of the Palazzo`s Renaissance loggia. Fully equipped kitchen. Independent heating and air conditioners.

Use of the Palazzo private gym included.

Very Nice Accommodation

by Jerry

Well appointed for a long stay. Clean, open, airy. Good elevator and door locks. Excellent location, view is incredible. and managed well. Has everything you would need for a long-term stay. Spacious, well appointed. The only "issue" was that the clothed dryer did not DRY. The device is either not functioning or the device does not dry clothes in a manner in-which we are accustomed. We utilized the clothes racks located in the apartment and the beautiful Florence breeze!!

Ideal Location & Great Accomodations

by C. Kitamura

This was our second time staying in this lovely, historic building. We previously stayed in an apartment on the third floor where we had bird's-eye view of the exciting Calcio Storico in June 2018. We didn't think we could beat that apartment, but for this trip we were lucky to get the Miravista with its fabulous balcony! The weather was wonderful. We enjoyed coffee in the morning and wine in the evenings looking out at the facade of Santa Croce on one side and the Duomo on the other. A great place to people watch and take in the beauty of the skyline. The apartment was well-equipped, spacious, and beautiful. The elevator was improved from our last trip and it was great for hauling luggage. We were pleased to be greeted by the Countessa who helped us become acquainted with the apartment and general area. We have really fallen in love this these accommodations and the neighborhood, and are looking forward to our next trip to this beautiful city. We can't think of a more ideal location or better accommodations ... and truly a great value!

Thank you for painting a vision of a lovely location and stay. The Italy Perfect Team

While we had high hopes for our family week in Florence with our 3 grown up children; Miravista clearly exceeded our expectations. It was a very comfortable, nicely understated decorated, with good 2 1/2 bathrooms and ample kitchen, sunny penthouse. While it had a good modern elevator, other than the day we arrived and departed with the luggage, the 5 of us (age 63, 61, our children 34, 31 and 29) always preferred the fun of enjoying to walk up and down the 92 steps; particularly after a nice dinner.Unfortunately, the weather was a bit cold as to enjoy the beautiful terrace overlooking the Plaza and the mountains; if it were spring or summer we would have spent long hours there... Waking up and having a leisure breakfast in front of the large window and terrace overlooking the Plaza was a fantastic way to start the day. The restaurant below was one of the best we had and at good prices; the owners and staff were incredibly friendly; we spent new year's eve with them. The location was great; just a 3 block walk to most of the landmarks...and yet quiet enough from the bulk of the tourists. Finally, the host was very educated and made our checkin / checkout a breeze. In addition, Pat Byrne was incredibly friendly and efficient and was making sure our reservation, paperwork and itinerary was up to date....Thank you Pat & Madelyne! [Thank you for your lovely review Harish! We are delighted that you had such a wonderful time with your family. We hope we can welcome you back in the near future. The Italy Perfect Team]

We stayed in an apartment on the top floor of the Palazzo Antellesi on the Piazza Santa Croce in Florence. The apartment (Miravista) was extremely comfortable and spacious and had a wonderful outside terrace overlooking the piazza and Santa Croce church. This location is slightly off the beaten track, which made it even more desirable, but still easily walkable to all the sights of Florence. It was nicely fitted out with all the appliances you could want, and everything worked and appeared to be well maintained. Several nearby neighborhood restaurants that we would recommend are Osteria Dei Pazzi (Via Dei Lavatoi), Osteria de' Benci (Borgo Santa Croce), and both Cibreo and Trattoria Cibreo (Via Del Verrocchio). We would definitely recommend Italy Perfect to our friends (as we would Paris Perfect, which we first used in 2001). [Thank you Jane, we are happy you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you again! The Italy Perfect Team]

The view from the terrace of the Basilica is even better than the pictures on the website. The building is charming, the apartment is very comfortable and close to everything in Florence. The building manager was prompt, explained everything and was available if needed. The views from the terrace especially at sunset were spectacular. Our first evening we were serenaded by a lone violinist playing the most beautiful music in the middle of the piazza. The apartment was quiet at night. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. I would highly recommend staying in any of the apartments in this building. I would most definitely stay here again when in Florence.

We were very happy with our stay in the Palazzo. It was a great location and everything about the lovely apartment- beautifully appointed - made our stay in Florence as nice as it could possibly be.The mild November weather even allowed for us to spend time outside on the rooftop terrace with superb views of Santa Croce, the activities of the piazza below, and surroundings. There were many good places nearby to eat - Il Cernacchino for sandwiches, La Maremma, and Boccadama, among them, which was always friendly and accommodating, either for cappuccino in the morning or a nice meal one evening. We took advantage of the travel tips on the Italy Perfect blog -very helpful. Also appreciated the assistance with reservation details and excellent service from Lisa and all others associated with Italy Perfect.Have recommended our experience to others and will continue to do so.Many thanks!

The accommodations were good and in a great location. Easy walking to many places of interest. We were fortunate in that the weekend we were there, there was a concert in the square in front of Santa Croce featuring the world renown tenor Placido Domingo. We got to watch and listen from our apartment balcony. Probably at least ten thousand ticket buyers as we took it all in for free. Great timing.

What a wonderful apartment, just what we expected from Italy Perfect. the apartment was spacious and beautifully decorated, there was nothing we wanted for. The balcony was bliss, great for breakfast, and to chill out after a day of sightseeing, we had front row seats to watch a festival, all in costume, layout in the square. Location was perfect to take in all the beauty that is Florence. Plenty of restaurants to choose from, for price ranges. We would highly recommend this very special apartment, you would not be disappointed. And thanks to our greeter, Cecile, who was most helpful . [Thank you so much for sharing your enjoyment! My husband and I stayed here for two weeks. We selected this location because we like the Santa Croce area and liked the pictures showing the terrace and views of the church. The church is one we visit each time we are in Florence. We were not disappointed : the views were wonderful and the apartment was all that we hoped for. The furnishings are very comfortable for lounging around and the terrace and inside dining areas gave us many pleasant meal venues. The beds and bathrooms were great, and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook a few meals and enjoy breakfast in. We used the washing machine several times and found it the best of the three we had in various places on this trip. While it also is a dryer, we used the drying rack and found that to work beautifully-also cut down on the utility usage! The only caveat to this location is that the church steps are a popular hangout well into the night; it can be very loud. Ear plugs blocked all the noise so it was not an issue for us--the "back" bedroom was a bit quieter. So, pack ear plugs and you will sleep well! Several restaurants in the area quickly became favorites: Francesco Vini, Acqua al Due, and Trattoria Icchè Cè Cè . Further from us, Giovanni's was wonderful--great bistecca alla Fiorentina. And the wine selections-terrific! Also close by is the Saint Ambrogio market-became an almost daily excursion for fresh foods of all sorts at great prices. Not to miss: the Mercato Centrale-inside, the Baroni's counter is a favorite. Paola and Allesandro have the best cheeses, olive oil, balsamic vinegars, and more-with tastings to help you choose. A trip up to Piazzale Michelangelo provides great views and a nice place for the sunset and a drink-the San Miniato church (just above ) gives even better views and, around 5:30 most days, you can hear Gregorian chants that add to the magicalness of the moment. The Duomo and the Duomo Museum are well worth visiting, and, if you want views, but don't want to climb the Campanile or Duomo steps , the Palazzo Vecchio has a much easier climb to the top. Renting from Italy Perfect was not only easy but they provided excellent information on what to expect and lots of info on phone service, WiFi and more. We would definitely recommend Italy Perfect to friends and will use them for our next trip for sure! [Thank you for all the recommendations and tips! The Italy Perfect Team]

When we rented the apartment in Florence we had no idea just how much it would enhance our stay. Each day we returned to our HOME with appetizers in hand. Then we would sit on our private terrace, enjoying wonderful italian cheeses and wine while discussing our day. We were traveling with 2 twenty year olds and had we all returned to separate hotel rooms our experience would not have been shared or enjoyed nearly as much. We will travel this way from now on. [Thank you so much, Mary. Your appetizers on the terrace sound delicious. Nice to enjoy with your 20 year olds rather than be separated. Please come again! The Italy Perfect Team]

I want to thank you for making our trip to Florence a truly memorable experience. Our accommodations at the Palazzo exceeded expectations and the terrace was just an amazing place to relax, read and enjoy (with some frequency) the fine Tuscan wines. Francesca met us and gave a very a gracious welcome and gave us lots of helpful tips about the area. Thank you also for the wonderful welcome basket of Italian goodies…very thoughtful. FYI - we booked 2 day trips with Florence Limousine Service to Siena/Wine Country/San Gimignano and to Pisa and Forti Di Marmi where we had lunch at a wonderful restaurant on the Mediterranean. Francesco (our driver) was knowledgeable, prompt and made the trips most enjoyable. [Thank you so much, Mark. It was a pleasure. The Italy Perfect Team]

The best part about a perfectly wonderful two weeks in Florence in May, staying in the beautiful Miravista, was that there were absolutely no surprises. And by that I mean...of the kind no one wants. I want to be surprised by many things when traveling, but I do not want to be surprised by what I see when I walk thru the door of a rented apartment. And Miravista was exactly as advertised, photographed and described. And just as delightful! We loved the Santa Croce area, our little terrace, the sounds of the Piazza, the bells ringing, an impromptu choir singing on the steps of the church one night. And the views out the windows in the back of the apartment were just as magical. I could not have improved upon a thing. Italy Perfect gets my fullest recommendation. You are in excellent hands with the Byrnes.

Oh my gosh, the trip was the most beautiful experience we could have asked for. Wonderful!!! Thank you for your services! I would go back tonight if I had the chance. The Medici Apartment in Florence is simply the most beautiful apartment in the world. Perfect for our big group. Stately and palatial, with every accommodation we could want. Huge windows open onto the square where excitement and life take place before your eyes. Felt like living in a Renaissance Palace!!! Renee, who manages the Pallazzo, was so wonderful and kind and warm. We most enjoyed the sights, the activity on the Piazza, the local cafes in the Ambrogio (sp?) neighborhood, the art, the palatial, restful apartment. The art, the art, the art! Noise was an issue but we got a system down of using the air conditioners and fans at night to drown out the partying on the square. It turned out fine and we got used to the system of windows closed and white noise on. No other drawbacks or problems at all - everything was truly perfect. The noise wouldn't have bothered us if we didn't have to be up in the AM with the kids, if we could have slept late like the locals it would have been fine. perfect, the perfect location - walked everywhere and best gellati in the world was only two blocks away. the Medici Apartment is right in the middle of things - the ONLY place to stay in Florence is what we all decided. The Ambrogio neighborhood was perfect, very authentic and no tourists, The Standa market was perfect - we went there daily to get food to cook in our apartment every night. We ate out only once and enjoyed great dinners around the huge dining room table. The leather school behind Santa Croce was wonderful! Tips: Try to live like a local, get off the beaten path, book museum tickets ahead of time from home to avoid lines. Your service was wonderful and thorough and helpful in every way. Seriously.

Local Sights

Piazza della Signoria (7 min walk)
Center of power of Florence since ancient times with the David statue by the Palazzo Vecchio, the ancient seat of government, and the loggia of dramatic statues each of which has a story about politics and power. Imagine the Bonfires of the Vanities here and the triumphal return of the Medici.
Uffizi Gallery (7 min walk)
One of the greatest museums in the world. The defining collection of Renaissance art. A tour is recommended.
Duomo (8 min walk)
Florence's famous and glorious cathedral, Santa Maria del Fiore, beautiful to gaze at since the 1300s. Don't miss and, if you can, read about -- then visit the amazing dome by Brunelleschi erected without scaffolding!
Ponte Vecchio (12 min walk)
Awesome ancient bridge over Florence's Arno river that has survived 800 years. Famous for the shops of goldsmiths along its length.
