This grand apartment on the Piazza Santa Croce has plenty space and views for the whole family. Come settle in for a long, comfortable stay, entertain and really discover Florence! There is room to entertain and to settle in for a long stay in beautiful Florence.

Location

Conveniently located in the heart of the historical center of Florence, in Piazza Santa Croce, the palazzo is a landmark Renaissance Palazzo, and one of the few left in the historic center of Florence with a dramatic frescoed façade.

During late May thru late June there is noise in the piazza related to the Calico Storico, historic soccer matches. Late May is bleacher set up, June is practices and matches. If you can catch any of the play-offs (dates not advised in advance) or the final on June 24th, you'll get a lifetime treat and the "best seat in the house". We were astounded when we watched a game from this palazzo. For more information look up Calcio Storico on YouTube or Netflix Home Game series Episode 1.

Exterior

Many people passing through Piazza Santa Croce notice Giovanni di Ser Giovanni`s 1620 frescoes on the overhanging façade this handsome building, but few realize they can actually stay here. The 16th-century palazzo is owned by the gracious Contessa, who rents out truly spacious apartments to anyone who has ever dreamed of lying in bed near a roaring fire under a 17th-century frescoed ceiling or sipping tea in a living room surrounded by trompe d`oeil Roman ruins with a 16th-century wood ceiling above.

Interior

The roomy Giotto apartment is on the third floor (American designation) of the Palazzo. There are six steps down from the elevator landing.

The apartment mixes the best of Italian modern and classic design. The large living room overlooks the impressive Piazza Santa Croce. Original frescoes are preserved on the living room wall and original wood beam ceilings from the 1500s remind you of the history of this building within the glorious history of Florence.

The living room has plenty of comfortable seating, the dining table can accommodate 6 people. The kitchen has top-of-the-line appliances, a cappuccino machine and refrigerator with icemaker.

Each of the three bedrooms has an en suite bathroom. The front bedroom, which overlooks the piazza, has a floor to ceiling glass wall between the sleeping area and the window area, offering a complete sound barrier between the bedroom and the piazza.

Loved our 10-day stay in Florence with Italy Perfect

Loved our 10-day stay in Florence with Italy Perfect. Giotto apartment was excellent and roomy for 6 of us. Enjoyed people-watching out the windows to the piazza below. Highly recommended this apartment and great location.

We had a wonderful stay in the Giotto apartment, it was so comfortable and clean. It met our needs perfectly, we plan to book it again for next fall. Fantastic location. Appreciated the helpful recommendations from Italy Perfect and the attentive onsite staff.

Spacious apartment in a great location!

by Kim

Three older couples stayed for five nights and we all loved the apartment. We each had large bedrooms with comfortable beds and our own spacious bathrooms. The living room area is larger than appears in the photos and we all enjoyed our evenings here with a glass of wine talking about our day. The hot water in the shower was always constant and having the washer and dryer available was so helpful in our travels. The coffee machine was a great touch and the location is one of our favorites in Florence. We all agree we would stay here again.

My wife, 2 kids, and I spent 5 nights in this beautiful, historic, but updated villa overlooking the piazza of Santa Croce church. The large 3 BR/3BA apartment was just updated, and we were the first guests since the renovation was completed. The apartment has modern, sleek and expensive appliances including a washer AND dryer!! The location is breathtaking as you can look out your windows directly onto the piazza of Santa Croce, and look at the beautiful church as well. Despite being right next to the piazza, we didn't hear any noise from the outside because of the sound-proof windows. Any small inconveniences we may have experienced were quickly rectified once we brought it to on site team's attention (Wi-Fi and how to use appliances). This is the 4th time we have utilized Italy Perfect for trips to Italy during the past 9 years, and we have never been let down. Pat is always very patient with my many questions and requests, and I consider her to be a friend as well as an excellent source of information. If you are interested in high end leather, the School of Leather located on the back side of the Santa Croce Basilica is a must see. We rented a car and went to Arezzo, 50 minutes south, and also went to Maranello (Ferrari Museum) and Modena (about 90 minutes north). If you are interested in Balsamic vinegar and would like to experience the oldest producer in the area, check out Acetaia Cavedoni: http://www.acetaiacavedoni.it/ This family business has been around since 1860 and our 90 minute private tour with Marcello was amazing, complete with bread, cheese, salumeria, dessert, lambrusco, expresso and plenty of balsamic vinegar. Our taxi ride to Fiesole, 15 minutes from the apartment atop a large hill, provided one of the most breathtaking views I have seen in my 4 trips to Italy. Eating at La Reggia degli Etruschi, in Fiesole, was phenomenal!! On a final note, the building is very secure, has great air conditioning in every room, is large, clean and we did not see a single bug or spider in the apartment the whole time. Many thanks to all for making our trip to Florence special!

Our stay at the Giotto apartment was perfect, to say the least. The idea of staying in a place that was built before America was ever discovered was a great experience. The Calcio Storico game was a great experience. Besides the game, the events preceding the game provided us with a great historical lesson. The service of Italy Perfect was perfect. We would have never experienced a vacation of a life time without Italy Perfect. Italy Perfect made our vacation complete. [Thank you so much, Paul, we were so excited to help you organize your trip and to get you to Florence in an apartment with a view of the game. You can't even get tickets to it...the locals get them all, so you had the best seat in the house! Come again! The Italy Perfect Team]

This apartment had everything we needed to enjoy a wonderful week in Florence! The bed was comfortable, the location was fantastic, and the apartment had all the amenities we needed. The washer and dryer were welcomed after a week on the road to refresh our laundry for another week of traveling. There is a great little restaurant on the first floor (Bocodama's) which works well when you arrive and don't have the energy to explore (the fettucine with wild boar sauce was very good). We could walk to just about everything from the apartment, exploring interesting sites along the way. Violi's, a super gelato store, is only a couple of short blocks away. There is a taxi stand about 100 feet away for the excursions beyond walking distance or a trip to the train station or airport.Above all, do not miss the coffee shop diagonally across the plaza which has the best croissants (many flavors) for only one euro each. I would recommend this apartment and the highly accommodating service of Italy Perfect to everyone! [Thank you Rich, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay! The Italy Perfect Team]

The accommodations were good and in a great location. Easy walking to many places of interest. We were fortunate in that the weekend we were there, there was a concert in the square in front of Santa Croce featuring the world renown tenor Placido Domingo. We got to watch and listen from our apartment balcony. Probably at least ten thousand ticket buyers as we took it all in for free. Great timing.

My family of six stayed in this apartment for four nights and it was amazing! The apartment was very clean and very comfortable. The location was perfect. We were close to many of the sights. There are many restaurants on the street to choose from. It was lovely to open the windows and hear a singer or an accordion player. The staff couldn't be more helpful. Stay here - you won't be sorry!! [Thank you so much, Shawn]

We spent six days/nights in a wonderful three bedroom/three bath apartment on the third floor of a 200 year old building overlooking the plaza of Sante Croce: the location is perfect. A ten minute walk to the Duomo and all its surrounds; fifteen minutes to the Ponte Vecchia Bridge; a ten minute walk to drug store (pharmacia) and market; a one minute walk to the Santa Croce Church; a wonderful restaurant literally outside our door; and right in the heart of the leather district. The apartment itself is more than adequate: quite comfortable. Great to be able to eat in, especially breakfast, at our pace. And plenty of room for a family of five (even when the kids are grown ups) with all having their privacy when they want it. HIghly recommended. [Thank you so much for your review! Can you believe that the building is actually more than 500 years old? The Italy Perfect Team]

Our apartment was very comfortable, quiet, clean, and well equipped. It was located in a historic palazzo turned into apartments on the Piazza Santa Croce. Our interests were in history, art, and architecture so the location was perfect. We were able to walk everywhere and even manage one of our party in a wheelchair. There is a "super" market a few blocks away for anything from staples to fine wine. We ate well everyday in a restaurant near our morning excursions, so all over the historic area. Food was great everywhere. Our travel companions are world-class consumers of gelato and give world-class honors to the small gelateria around the corner, facing the convent associated with Santa Croce. The folks at Italy Perfect were very helpful. And, yes, I would certainly seek them out again and recommend them to friends.

As usual, the service provided by you was excellent. The accommodations were superior to what we expected. The location was superb. In general the installations worked very well. As regarding to restaurants, we could make to suggestions that we enjoyed very much: Ristorante Il Paiolo (Via Del Corso, 42) and very near to the apartment, Trattoria Carne Alla Brace. By sure we have already recommended and we’ll continue recommending Italy Perfect to our friends. Looking to have another opportunity to use your service.

Our stay at the Giotto apartment was the final stop in a month long journey throughout Italy. We were very happy with the accommodations, clean and comfortable and enjoyed the lively piazza at night. This location is great if you want to be in the center of the action, but be prepared for activity in the piazza that can be noisy during popular tourist season. We loved all the useful information that Italy Perfect provided in advance of our trip and their honest and detailed descriptions of the apartment. Thank you Lisa and Pat!

Apartment was very spacious. Endearing decor of antiques. Beautiful view of the Santa Croce church. We were apparently there during a Florence holiday so the square was obscured by an arena and stands that were set up for the performance. It would have been nice to know that in advance as we had planned a country trip that day and had to miss the performance and festivities. Master shower head needs to be changed and then the shower would be great. All and all a nice apartment.

Oh my gosh, the trip was the most beautiful experience we could have asked for.  Wonderful!!!  Thank you for your services! I would go back tonight if I had the chance.  The Medici Apartment in Florence is simply the most beautiful apartment in the world.  Perfect for our big group.  Stately and palatial, with every accomodation we could want.  Huge windows open onto the square where excitement and life take place before your eyes.  Felt like living in a Renaissance Palace!!!  Renee, who manages the Pallazzo, was so wonderful and kind and warm.  We most enjoyed the sights, the activity on the Piazza, the local cafes in the Ambrogio (sp?) neighborhood, the art, the palatial, restful apartment. The art, the art, the art! Noise was an issue but we got a system down of using the air conditioners and fans at night to drown out the partying on the square.  It turned out fine and we got used to the system of windows closed and white noise on.  No other drawbacks or problems at all - everything was truly perfect.  The noise wouldn't have bothered us if we didn't have to be up in the AM with the kids, if we could have slept late like the locals it would have been fine. Perfect, the perfect location - walked everywhere and best gellati in the world was only two blocks away. the Medici Apartment is right in the middle of things - the ONLY place to stay in Florence is what we all decided. The Ambrogio neighborhood was perfect, very authentic and no tourists, The Standa market was perfect - we went there daily to get food to cook in our apartment every night.  We ate out only once and enjoyed great dinners around the huge dining room table. The leather school behind Santa Croce was wonderful! Tips: Try to live like a local, get off the beaten path, book museum tickets ahead of time from home to avoid lines. Your service was wonderful and thorough and helpful in every way.  Seriously.

Local Sights

Piazza della Signoria (7 mins Walking)
Center of power of Florence since ancient times with the David statue by the Palazzo Vecchio, the ancient seat of government, and the loggia of dramatic statues each of which has a story about politics and power. Imagine the Bonfires of the Vanities here and the triumphal return of the Medici.

One of the greatest museums in the world. The defining collection of Renaissance art. A tour is recommended.
