Wonderful, trompe-l`oeil frescoes adorn the living room of the splendid and exceptionally spacious Donatello apartment with a perfect location on the historic Piazza Santa Croce. Bliss!

The Donatello apartment can be joined with the Benozzo apartment to become a 6 bedroom apartment that can accommodate 11 + 1.

Location

Conveniently located in the heart of the historical center of Florence, in Piazza Santa Croce, the palazzo is a landmark Renaissance Palazzo, and one of the few left in the historic center of Florence with a dramatic frescoed facade.

During late May thru late June there is noise in the piazza related to the Calico Storico, historic soccer matches. Late May is bleacher set up, June is practices and matches. If you can catch any of the play-offs (dates not advised in advance) or the final on June 24th, you'll get a lifetime treat and the "best seat in the house". We were astounded when we watched a game from this palazzo. For more information look up Calcio Storico on YouTube or Netflix Home Game series Episode 1.

Exterior

Many people passing through Piazza Santa Croce notice Giovanni di Ser Giovanni`s 1620 frescoes on the overhanging facade this handsome building, but few realize they can actually stay here. The 16th-century palazzo is owned by the gracious Contessa, who rents out truly spacious apartments to anyone who has ever dreamed of lying in bed near a roaring fire under a 17th-century frescoed ceiling or sipping tea in a living room surrounded by trompe d`oeil Roman ruins with a 16th-century wood ceiling above.

Interior

On the third floor (American designation) of the Palazzo, there is an elevator 6 steps up from main entrance. Exceptionally spacious apartment offers multiple views onto one of the large, interior courts with tall windows and good light.

The ample hallway leads to a large living room with beautiful, original trompe d`oeil frescoes and original wood beamed ceilings from the 1600s. A sofa bed sleeps one.

One bedroom with bathroom is on a raised level with small private terrace and sitting area.

Large, complete separate kitchen with dishwasher and adjacent dining room. The stately dining room has a table for 12. This could be the gathering place for your reunion.

Use of Palazzo private gym included.

What a delightful apartment in historic Florence. We stayed seven weeks in the Donatello Apartment and enjoyed its charm, beauty, and convenience. Situated on Piazza Santa Croce, the apartment was convenient to walk all over Florence, but enough off the beaten path to feel like a real residence and not a tourist spot. I would highly recommend this apartment. Enjoy Florence. [Thank you for your kind review. We look forward to welcoming you back to Italy in the near future! The Italy Perfect Team]

This apartment is fantastic - quiet, elegant and very spacious. We also rented the adjoining Benozzo and that was a wonderful combination for a large family. We have been staying in the Palazzo for over 15 years and every property is great and the service and welcoming spirit is a real treat. [We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay! My head was spinning with so many options for our "once in a lifetime" overseas stay. We selected Italy Perfect because they have stayed in each location and I could call Pat and get my questions answered without a language barrier. They gave me more security about the transaction and the reliability of accommodations. S Croce Donatello was the perfect location, clean, spacious, and such a wonderful way to stay in beautiful Florence. We truly can not say enough about it. EVERYTHING was in walking distance and within a few days we knew the city. Santa Croce is a beautiful church and we literally opened our front door to it each day. We learned where the markets were and prepared several meals at home. The kitchen had the basics and the dining room easily can accommodate 8 people. However, local restaurants are available too -- the best of both worlds. We stayed with our two adult children (ages 18 and 21). However, the apartment would be perfect for 3 couples or a family of 6 or so. Plenty of space for everyone. Quiet at night and very, very clean! [Oh, super, Nic, we are so glad this worked so nicely for you. The Italy Perfect Team]

We had a family vacation that included 5 nights in the Donnatello apartment. We have never seen a more spacious and well maintained accomodation! We were greeted by the lovely Cecile and made to feel welcome. The rooms are a step back in time with period decor and frescoes on the walls. Our stay was topped off with the historic games of calcio storico in the piazza, which occurs every June. If we should be so lucky to return to Florence, we would plan our vacation around the availability of this lovely apartment! Thank you to the Contessa!!

The location couldn't be better. Plenty of room for all five of us. Plus everyone had there own bath plus air conditioner in all rooms. Host were very accommodating and answered all questions. Only one flaw kitchen needed a few more items (soap for dishes and surfaces). Our six days couldn't have been better. [We are delighted your stay was so nice. The Italy Perfect team]

Our apartment was very comfortable, quiet, clean, and well equipped. It was located in a historic palazzo turned into apartments on the Piazza Santa Croce. Our interests were in history, art, and architecture so the location was perfect. We were able to walk everywhere and even manage one of our party in a wheelchair. There is a "super" market a few blocks away for anything from staples to fine wine. We ate well everyday in a restaurant near our morning excursions, so all over the historic area. Food was great everywhere. Our travel companions are world-class consumers of gelato and give world-class honors to the small gelateria around the corner, facing the convent associated with Santa Croce. The folks at Italy Perfect were very helpful. And, yes, I would certainly seek them out again and recommend them to friends.

We spent ten days in Apartment Donatello and felt completely at home even though home was a beautiful 16th Century living space fit for royalty.... which we are most decidedly not. Each of the three bedrooms is spacious with ensuite bathroom and very efficient air conditioning. The AC was particularly welcomed as Florence was under a heat wave with 95-98º temperatures. The upstairs master bedroom is particularly beautiful and filled with golden sunlight during the day. There is also a small terrace that overlooks an interior patio below. The kitchen and dining room are big enough to throw a dinner party for 12 while the frescoed living room is a perfect place to flop after a long day seeing the sights. The entire apartment feels like a sanctuary and one is grateful for the serenity and quiet provided by its interior location, especially during the heavy tourist season. Managers Cecile and Patrizia are delightful as well as professional. Indeed, they are an added luxury. We will definitely return to Palazzo Santa Croce and its many charms whenever we visit Florence again.

The apartment was perfect for us and as described by Italy Perfect. The location was great and very close to anywhere in florence you want to go as it is a very small city. We stayed for 2 weeks and felt extremely safe in the area and the apartment. I highly recommend this apartment for any and all travelers. Everything was explained and the greeter was very helpful and friendly. I would not hesitate to stay there again. We really enjoyed the restaurant downstairs "bocadama". They were always so friendly and helpful

We spent 5 nights at an apartment in the Piazza Santa Croce in July. The apartment was beautiful, extremely quiet even though on a busy square, and very spacious. There was lots of space for us all ( 2 adults and 2 teens) to get away from each other if needed! There was a washer and dryer which was very useful, and the kitchen was well equipped. The location was fantastic. Our Greeter was waiting for us and was incredibly helpful. She was available every day in the building for several hours and was a great source of information. The stay was far better than we expected and we would absolutely recommend this to our friends.

I spent hours looking over multiple website reviews for multiple company's when we were looking for an apartment in Florence.Knowing you can't please every one all of the time I finally settled on Italy Perfect as they came closest. I was not disappointed. The apartment was as advertised. The local greeter/manager was wonderful and helpful. Italy perfect provided a host of information ahead of time that was very useful. The restaurants suggested were amazing, although it is hard to find bad food in Florence. The Piazza St. Croce. Was a wonderful location. I had been to Florence before but we had missed this gem of a place. It was great. We ate out most nights but one night went to a local market and cooked a huge dinner at home. We had everything we needed. It was worth the effort spending all that time on the Internet to find this group. They responded to email promptly at all timesSome of the other groups I queried took days to get back to me. In summary, we had an amazing time and could not have had a better experience. I will use this company again.

We could not have chosen a better place to see Florence with our children and grand-children. The apartment was spacious, elegant, and very well situated. Our unit was internal, which may have accounted for it being so quiet even though we were by a busy square. It overlooked several courtyards, creating a pleasant environment. We went out to buy croissants every morning in several nearby bakeries and brought them back. What a treat. The local manager was very helpful, as was the general information provided to us ahead of the trip by Italy perfect. Highly recommended.

This was our fourth trip to Florence. First time for our grandchildren who loved running around in Piazza Santa Croce in the evening after dinner, ice cream cone in hand. Apartment suited our extended family very well, the living room is large and was our gathering spot each day to relax, chat and plan where to go to dinner. Many good restaurants nearby made it easy! We are already planning a return stay at the Donatello apartment.

Oh my gosh, the trip was the most beautiful experience we could have asked for. Wonderful!!! Thank you for your services! I would go back tonight if I had the chance. The Medici Apartment in Florence is simply the most beautiful apartment in the world. Perfect for our big group. Stately and palatial, with every accommodation we could want. Huge windows open onto the square where excitement and life take place before your eyes. Felt like living in a Renaissance Palace!!! Renee, who manages the Pallazzo, was so wonderful and kind and warm. We most enjoyed the sights, the activity on the Piazza, the local cafes in the Ambrogio (sp?) neighborhood, the art, the palatial, restful apartment. The art, the art, the art! Noise was an issue but we got a system down of using the air conditioners and fans at night to drown out the partying on the square. It turned out fine and we got used to the system of windows closed and white noise on. No other drawbacks or problems at all - everything was truly perfect. The noise wouldn't have bothered us if we didn't have to be up in the AM with the kids, if we could have slept late like the locals it would have been fine. perfect, the perfect location - walked everywhere and best gellati in the world was only two blocks away. the Medici Apartment is right in the middle of things - the ONLY place to stay in Florence is what we all decided. The Ambrogio neighborhood was perfect, very authentic and no tourists, The Standa market was perfect - we went there daily to get food to cook in our apartment every night. We ate out only once and enjoyed great dinners around the huge dining room table. The leather school behind Santa Croce was wonderful! Tips: Try to live like a local, get off the beaten path, book museum tickets ahead of time from home to avoid lines. Your service was wonderful and thorough and helpful in every way. Seriously.

We rented two apartments in Palazzo Santa Croce from July 2nd to the 16th and spent 6 weeks in Italy overall. It was a marvelous trip and we have returned highly recommending staying in apartments to our friends. We loved and would certainly return to apartments in Florence, particularly Miravista which was light and lovely, and had the wonderful terrace.
