Unparalleled views grace the Borgo property in the Val d`Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Surrounded by olive groves, guests can observe the oil harvest, processing and taste the delicious results. The home of a farming community in medieval times, the Borgo apartments are the essence of agriturismo. The renowned La Foce English-style gardens dating from the 1920s are a 5 minute drive.

Location

Picture-postcard views of rolling hills dotted with cypress trees. Excursions to the well-known medieval towns are easy, whether you enjoy wine-tasting, savoring the riches of Tuscan cuisine, hiking you can savor the best that Tuscany has to offer. Imagine a leisurely lunch and wine tasting in Montalcino, a visit to the Etruscan ruins nearby, back for a dip in the pool, cocktails at sunset and dinner at one of the many country restaurants nearby.

Exterior

This set of apartments is located in handsome stone building a 5-minute drive from the main road. A central courtyard is planted with a fragrant lime tree, lavender and roses. Patio furniture is in the garden during summer months. Self-service laundry room with washer, dryer on ground floor.

Included in each apartment: Toiletries, hair dryers, dishwasher detergent, dish soap, laundry detergent. Mid-week change of bath towels. Basic grocery items, complimentary bottle of wine and olive oil. Map of local hikes and walks.

On request: Additional housekeeping. Welcome dinner. Gourmet cooking class.

Activities: Pool. Tennis. Playground. Beautiful walks, both up into the oak and beech woods, and down into the crete senesi, the unique clay hillocks that characterize the Val d`Orcia landscape. In late July an outstanding chamber music festival, Incontri in Terra di Siena, is held at the Castelluccio. On site manager can advise you on restaurants, shopping, sight-seeing. Some of the most beautiful Renaissance, Romanesque, Medieval and Etruscan sites are close by, and in summer, digs for an Etruscan necropolis are ongoing in the field next to the main Borgo villa.

On Request: Private guided tours of Tuscan treasures. Swimming in volcanic hot water pools. Riding in Val d`Orcia. Mountain biking.

Interior

Beco is spacious and comfortably furnished. Living room has a working fireplace.

The eat-in kitchen is especially Tuscan with the old hearth addiing character. It is traditional in appearance with travertine table tops and an open fireplace but is set up for a keen and experience cook.

The size of the living room and the kitchen makes it possible for them to be used for events such as family reunions, important birthdays or other get togethers for 10 -15 people, staying in different apartments.

For larger groups, the Beco apartment can be connected to the Fonte apartment via a shared door.

Heating is charged locally at €3.50 per cubic meter. Average cost is €15 per day, depending on usage.

Pool: Communial pool opens end of May to the end of September. There are no alarms for the pool. Guests are fully responsible for safety of all.

Check in/out: Check in 3pm-5pm, by appointment. Check out by 10am.

La Foce Gardens (5 minute drive)
La Foce and its formal gardens are world-famous. Its restaurant Dopolavoro celebrates Tuscan cuisine.
Chianciano Terme (7 minute drive)
Fellini loved this town famous for its thermal baths. The ancient defensive wall surrounds a historic castle, beautiful clock tower, museum with art from the renaissance times and an archeological museum.
Monticchiello (16 minute drive)
In the heart of Val d'Orcia, this ancient village reflects its roots and its role as a stronghold for the Republic of Siena. An exhibition park below the medieval fortress is a nice wander and location of events. Several good restaurants invite you to return.
Montepulciano (18 minute drive)
Top Tuscan town known for its eponymous wine, architecture from medieval times to the Renaissance.
Montalcino (40 minute drive)
Brunello is the famous wine of Montalcino. In the breath-taking Val d'Ocia, it is also know for its unspoiled 16th century architecture from which the views are phenomenal. Seasonal concerts and festivals.
Valdichiana Outlet Village (40 minute drive)
Designer shopping with discounts in a convenient location. Restaurants, wines, playground.
Lake Trasimeno (45 minute drive)
Gathered around this lake in Umbria are several small towns, including an ancient town on an island. Take a boat to an island, walk the natural landscape rich with wildlife. Etruscans and Romans settled here. Famous for local olive oil, fish wine, vin santo, cheese and honey.
Orvieto (50 minute drive)
Outstanding hilltown just north of Rome. Beautiful views over the plains of Umbria. A plethora of medieval palaces. One of the great cathedrals of Italy with famous art. Excellent wandering the traffic-free medieval streets. Dine and drink the famous local wine in one of the many wineries.
Cortona (60 minute drive)
Beautiful hilltop Tuscan town. In addition to restaurants and shops, an Etruscan museum, an archeological park with ancient fortifications and stretches of Roman roads. Paintings by Fra Angelico.
Siena (75 minute drive)
Called Italy's loveliest medieval city with cuisine, art, museums, churches and famous art. Unique medieval culture that is reflected in the twice annual Palio horse race that some call insane. Look for videos.
Assisi (95 minute drive)
Wonderful hill town in Umbria. The birthplace of St Francis, the sights of his life and the massive cathedral are places of devotion and spiritual energy. Frescoes by famous artists including Giotto and Cimabue.
Florence (95 minute drive)
Capital of Tuscany, home of the Renaissance. Architecture and art. Food and shopping galore.
Radda in Chianti (95 minute drive)
Ancient village, long the headquarters of the Chianti League for wine. Wonderful wandering the streets, tunnels, views and restaurants with, of course, Chianti wine.
Greve in Chianti (105 minute drive)
One of the great wine towns of Italy, famous for Chianti wine, fine shops and restaurants. The triangular main piazza with collonnades hosts wine-focused events and an organic farmer's market, check schedule. Art and history abound in this easy to visit town.
Rome (120 minute drive)
The capital of Italy and the seat of the Roman civilization 2000 years ago.

Public Transport

Chiusi-Chianciano Terme Train Station (15 minute drive)
A taxi can be arranged from the train station to the property. You will need a car for local and regional transport, best rented in a major city.

We absolutely LOVED staying at Borgo.

The Tiglio apartment was perfect for our family of 4, my husband and I and our 2 adult children. The setting was idyllic, could not have asked for a better introduction to the Tuscan countryside. The grounds are expansive and a swim in the pool was so refreshing. Our host was incredibly welcoming and so helpful to us in recommending restaurants, and even called around for us to book reservations. We were pleased to find in the kitchen, a welcome basket--bottle of wine, loaf of bread, meat and cheese and of course, olive oil from the estate. We were lucky enough to have the olive oil tasting dinner the first night we arrived. It was such a pleasure to meet the owner, and hear about the estate and the oils produced there. Our stay was much too short as we spent most days exploring the countryside, but it was so nice to come home to Tiglio at the end of the day. The whole time we kept talking about going back with extended family. I would highly recommend this property! We also booked another property with Italy perfect, which was also wonderful. I would'nt hesitate to book any property through Italy Perfect. It was easy and perfect, start to finish!

When it came time to book our Tuscany countryside lodging, I contacted Italy Perfect. I booked a Rome apartment 7 years ago and loved the ease of working with Lisa and team. Like the apartment in Rome, the lodging was amazing. The location is postcard perfect, the host Lorena a doll and the accommodations were clean and roomy for our group of 6. The property is perfect for all ages with a pool that has an incredible view of the rolling hills. Try to be onsite for the most beautiful sunsets. The proximity to every town small and large is manageable. Montepulciano is a must for the scenery, wine and food. Thanks again Italy Perfect for making the daunting task of finding the perfect lodging so easy.

Perfect information, perfect service, perfect vacation! I have lived in Rome, Italy for two years many years ago and have spent a great deal of time there. I found the Italy Perfect website, knowing exactly what I wanted. Italy Perfect was able to give me a great deal of detailed information about the rental apartment. Their notes prior to our leaving were extremely detailed and helpful. I will certainly return to them in the future.
