Enjoy

A perfect medieval castle overlooks the hamlet "borgo" that has been turned into a small vacation village of a few cottages and apartments. The views of the Chianti hills are open and lovely.

Location

Between Siena and Arezzo, a little off the beaten track, the fairy tale castle of Bucine rises from the hills of Tuscany. The hamlet next to the castle has been transformed into a vacation village with luxury apartments and villas.

With many fabled towns and villages to explore, you will be torn between enjoying your village or visiting new ones. Only a fifteen minute drive from the A1 highway that links Rome with Florence, but unless you know how to find this property, it is unlikely you will discover it. Arezzo, famous for its antiques market, charm, and medieval jousting is half an hour`s drive. Siena is a 45 minute drive, Florence an hour, and Rome`s airport about three hours. You can avoid driving into Florence by catching the local train that gets you right into the center of that city in an hour.

The restaurant that serves six days a week during mid and high season is a real bonus. Breakfast is available to apartment and cottage residents for an extra charge. Dinner served five nights: M,T,Th,F,Sat. There is a small bar and local wine and olive oil are available for purchase. You may reserve cycling tours, mountain bike rentals, guided walks and treks, and private or group cooking lessons.

This lovely property has so much to offer to the vacationer whether a couple or an extended family. The variety of accommodations welcomes mixed groups and family reunions, too. Close to well-known towns like Arezzo and Siena, it also lets you wander solitary among the olive groves and ancient hills.

Exterior

The property has 700 acres of woods, olive groves and vineyards to wander. An unrestored borgo used for farm purposes lies a hundred yards down the road and just beyond is a fishing lake. Fishing poles are available. The large, sunny swimming pool (26x66 feet or 8x20m) provides hours of enjoyment in summer.

Interior

Ground floor: Poggio has a large living room with working fireplace that opens out onto the rear terrace. Spacious, well equipped eat-in kitchen with oven, gas stove top, dishwasher and refrigerator freezer. Bedroom with queen sized bed, en-suite bathroom with shower.

Second Floor (First European): Spacious bedroom with queen sized bed, en-suite bathroom with shower and a sitting room. Off the sitting room which is open to the bedroom, no door, is an alcove with a single bed. The third bedroom has two single beds. Bathroom with shower.

Bucine Poggio Review

by Kristin and Rusty Day
We have returned again and again to this very special destination, near the small town of Bucine. We had never stayed here in June and really enjoyed this time of year and the use of the wonderful pool and the surrounding gardens. Our accommodations were perfect, clean, orderly and very quiet and private as always. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is perfect, an easy drive to Florence, Arezzo, Siena, the Chianti Mountains and Montelchino, etc. The small town of Bucine has a small but very good farmers market every Wednesday, they also have an excellent butcher who sends you home with some of his own homemade sausage as a little gift. The fruit/vegetable market next to him is also very good, and they are very friendly. There is an excellent laundry service right next to the COOP as you first enter the town, they wash, fold and iron your clothes, it is a wonderful service. We do not go to restaurants, but prefer to stay in and cook. We would definitely recommend to couples, families with small children, anyone, this very magical place.

I wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know that our trip to Tuscany and Rome was wonderful. Your help and your website really made our trip run very smoothly. We found Bucine to be a wonderful, serene spot in the Tuscan hills and being off the beaten path only added to the magic. The accommodations were beautiful, clean and well tended. Dinner and breakfast were tasty. Antonella is personable, kind and attentive. Her suggestions for dinner and towns to explore were spot on. We would be very happy to go back. Thank you for connecting us with a special place.

We had the MOST wonderful week in Tuscany thanks in large part to the beautiful accommodations at Bucine - Il Poggio. The owners welcomed us and Antoinella and Angela made us feel right at home. We were originally going to stay in the "Limonaia" but the owners recommended that for our group, we might be more comfortable in Il Poggio. Both would have been fine! The place is beautiful. We had delicious breakfasts every day prepared by Angela and an entertaining cooking class given by Antoinella. Great location to get a real feel for Tuscany, the vineyards, olive oil and medieval villages. Definitely need a car! Highly recommended, would love to go back soon! Thank you so much! Grazie!

This is our fifth trip to Bucine and as always we were welcomed and treated royally. We come off season, so we were the only guests at this time, it was very quiet and private. The apartment we rented is for two people and is just perfect with a small fireplace, adequate kitchen with a stove and oven. It is very clean and very well maintained. The staff is always available if you have questions and they have good recommendations. There are many hiking trails if you like that sort of thing, and Florence is and Arezzo are a 30 minute drive away, Cortona is about 45 minutes away. I would recommend shopping in the small shops in downtown Bucine, you need to check the store hours, but they have an excellent meat market and fruit and vegetable market. The Coop store at the top of the hill is not that great. We will definitely return, hopefully next fall. [We so appreciate your repeat business and your fondness for Bucine! The Italy Perfect Team]

Never having visited Italy or Tuscany before, the vast beauty was overwhelming. The remote nature of Tenuta Lupinari only enhanced that sense. The accomomdations were not only adequate but difficult to describe even with picture to our friends and family here in the U.S. We were treated with great respect by the stafff. We had several requests and they were attended to immediately and with gentleness and concern. It woud have been to our advantage to have used their restaurant facitlies more than we did. Going to other locations, for instance nearby Ambra opened up numerous excellent dining choices, but missing the special cooking at Lupinari is our loss. Next time! I have previously commented that by coming at the beginnin gof the low season meant that for four of our seven days we were the only guests. This allowed the staff more flexibiity but also left us isolated betweeen 9 pm and 9 am. Nothing like utter silence and darkness away from everything and everybody to spark one's imagination of 'creepy things in the night.' Our day trips to Montapulciano, Montalcino, Venice, Florence, Sienna and Orvieto were made with ease, especially from the Bucine Train Station.. (a ticket machine, no staff there, but many trains throughout the day to make it convenient.) There are two vineyards within a short and easy drive that we would highly recommend for atmosphere, wine tasting and local conversation--Fattoria Casabianca Agriturismo, Miglarina, and a third, Felsina. Il campo in Sienna is a surprise treat among the many delights of Tuscany. Thumbs up to Italy Perfect! Thx

Our time at Bucine Poggio was truly wonderful! I can’t thank you enough. Bucine was the highlight of the whole trip. Our little village, the castle, vineyards, olive trees, wild boar, deer, ruins, and more. The owners are a lovely, lovely family and made the time there truly special— from the private cooking class, dinner at the castle with Maria and Antonella, the wine tour and private tasting, plus fabulous swimming pool and storybook scenery… Italy Perfect is perfecto!

What a lovely place! The views are spectacular, the pool is very nice and there are many day-trip options to take from here. We had the opportunity to visit the Chianti Wine Region, Siena, Arezzo and Florence (Florence is easily accessible by train from Bucine). Bucine Poggio was well appointed and very roomy. We liked sitting on our patio in the evenings, but also enjoyed the dinner offered on several occasions. We would certainly recommend Buccine Poggio and would like to visit again. It is a bit tricky to find, but Italy Perfect gave some very precise instructions and we arrived without any issues. Thank you so much, Yvette, for allowing us to enjoy this nice place through your eyes. The Italy Perfect Team

Our extended family of 6 (ages 12-89) stayed at Bucine Poggio in June of 2013 and could not have been more pleased with the experience. Booking with Italy Perfect was very easy. The website was very informative and any questions I had were answered quickly and completely. The minute we arrived at Bucine Poggio, we were all in awe of the beauty of the grounds and the friendly and helpful staff. Bucine Poggio was perfect for our needs - immaculately clean and comfortably furnished. The kids enjoyed the sparkling pool just about every day. The restaurant served fabulous breakfasts and dinners. When we wanted to venture out to eat, the staff recommended some great places and even made reservations for us. We all loved the cooking class and have re-created the entire meal at home several times already. We made easy day trips to San Gimignano, Siena, Radda and Florence (by train from Bucine). We would love to return to Bucine Poggio some day!

We stayed for 12 nights at the Borgo near the town of Bucine and it was heavenly. The location is beautiful and perfect for those who really want to be out in the countryside, but close enough to the autoestradas to move around easily. The accomodations were very comfortable, clean and the grounds were beautifully kept. The evening meal is well worth taking advantage of as the food is homey italian and excellent! Staff was very nice and helpful all the time, we felt right at home. The only drawback that I found at Lupinari is the lack of laundry facilities, I beleive the administration should come up with a solution to this. All my best to the team at Borgo Bucine!!

The villa in Tuscany worked out really well. With 4 daughter, 2 older and 2 toddlers the larger accommodations were perfect. We really enjoyed exploring the Tuscan region. Each day was a new adventure as we drove our Ford van here and there seeing the sights. We originally thought that we would relax and spend more time at the villa but ended up putting over 500 miles on the van that week alone. No problems, but did lose our security deposit when my wife and daughter decided to blow-up the cooktop. Long story, quite funny really. Loved the location and surrounding area. May have been a little too remote for us. But having the car really helped. Most of the local restaurants were good and had friendly service. Each little town seemed to have its own specialties and it was fun to explore each to see the differences. We visited, Aretzo, Siena, San Giminagno, Mont Riggioni, the Chianti region, Montevarchi, and several others. (town names spelled to best of my memory) Tips: Recommend using a GPS unit when driving the area. Usually very accurate but at times put us into some strange situations that all turned out to be fun and exciting. Tip 2 don't cook on top of the glass cover of the range, that's not what it is there for. Thank you for all your help. We will not hesitate to recommend you to others.

I must say that I feel that I know you personally. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you so much for helping Jennifer prepare such an amazing and memorable trip. All the arrangements were perfect. The Castello di Lupinari was the perfect setting for my family. I must tell you that the owners of this property are some of the most lovely people we have ever met. We all would go back in a heartbeat.

We just wanted you to know that we had a totally fabulous time at Borgo Bucine last week. We also were fortunate to have lovely weather, and thoroughly enjoyed our daytrips to Pisa, Siena, Montepulciano, and Arrezzo. We also visited one of the local wineries, Poggio Molina (website is www.poggiomolina.it) whom the owners recommended. This was one of the highlights of our trip....the vineyards are gorgeous and the wine cellar and tasting room was beautiful. It's run by a local family, and they even sent us back with a gift of wine for recommending them (we bought two cases of red and one of white). ...everything else was perfect...we loved the layout of the villa (Fienile) and the furniture is beautiful. Thanks again for all of your help and advice and I would love to return to Italy again soon. Thank you

We returned from Italy late Saturday night. I must tell you -- Borgo Bucine was spectacular. Your directions were terrific and the family was lovely. I got especially friendly with Antonella. My daughter fell in love with their dogs. So, thanks for hand picking a lovely villa for us. We had a wonderful and relaxing trip. Tuscany is a very special place. The Italian people--even more special. It can get unbearably hot in the summer. We may have hit an unusually hot spell, but it did put a damper on our enjoyment. We had several days of 95-100 degree weather. Brutal. If people have a choice, they should choose May or October. There were soooooo many tourists, it was crazy. When I travel, I like to spend time with the people who live in the area. Not people like me! Anyway, Antonella suggested three "tourist free" places for us that I loved. Thanks for great tips. Oh, we ate in a place that you recommended. I don't have the name right now but it was about a block away from the Piazza della Signoria. Wonderful food. NO TOURISTS!! Grazie,
