A perfect medieval castle overlooks the hamlet "borgo" that has been turned into a small vacation village of a few cottages and apartments. The views of the Chianti hills are open and lovely.

Location

Between Siena and Arezzo, a little off the beaten track, the fairy tale castle of Bucine rises from the hills of Tuscany. The hamlet next to the castle has been transformed into a vacation village with luxury apartments and villas.

With many fabled towns and villages to explore, you will be torn between enjoying your village or visiting new ones. Only a fifteen minute drive from the A1 highway that links Rome with Florence, but unless you know how to find this property, it is unlikely you will discover it. Arezzo, famous for its antiques market, charm, and medieval jousting is half an hour`s drive. Siena is a 45 minute drive, Florence an hour, and Rome`s airport about three hours. You can avoid driving into Florence by catching the local train that gets you right into the center of that city in an hour.

The restaurant that serves six days a week during mid and high season is a real bonus. Breakfast is available to apartment and cottage residents for an extra charge. Dinner served five nights: M,T,Th,F,Sat. There is a small bar and local wine and olive oil are available for purchase. You may reserve cycling tours, mountain bike rentals, guided walks and treks, and private or group cooking lessons.

This lovely property has so much to offer to the vacationer whether a couple or an extended family. The variety of accommodations welcomes mixed groups and family reunions, too. Close to well-known towns like Arezzo and Siena, it also lets you wander solitary among the olive groves and ancient hills.

Exterior

The property has 700 acres of woods, olive groves and vineyards to wander. An unrestored borgo used for farm purposes lies a hundred yards down the road and just beyond is a fishing lake. Fishing poles are available. The large, sunny swimming pool (26x66 feet or 8x20m) provides hours of enjoyment in summer.

Interior

Ground floor: Limonaia has a large luminous living room with satellite TV and dining area ringed with arched windows in a wonderful position overlooking the castle. Well equipped kitchen with oven, gas stove top, dishwasher and refrigerator freezer. Bathroom with shower.

Second Floor (First European): Galleried landing with small sitting area. Large bedroom with queen sized bed, en-suite bathroom with shower. A second bedroom with queen sized bed.Third bedroom has two single beds. Bathroom with shower.

Bucine Limonaia Review

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Colleen, my children and myself are all grateful for the advice and services you gave us in making our trip to the Chianti region of Tuscany so fun, easy and memorable. our stay at Bucine agriturismo was wonderful and all that we wanted, and more! The sisters Mariana & Antonia and the staff were so great, offering hospitality, tips and access to so many fun places and events. First, the 3 bedroom Limonia was perfect for us 5. The pool was big, clean and refreshing. Both breakfast and dinners were tasty and fun. Even loved the nearby town of Bucine and its market. Mariana set us up with 5 tickets to Arrezzo’s Friday night, pre joust neighborhood dinner. So fun and special to be able to get access to such a long standing, local event. Met so many nice Arrezzians. Thanks again for listening to us, interpreting what we wanted into the perfect stay. We would like to return again, while using you as our guide to the right place in the right location. Cannot wait!

Bucine Limonaia Review

We just LOVED our week here at the 3 bedroom Villa (La Limonaia). We experienced true Tuscan hospitality in an authentic Italian "Borgo". The location is just spectacular. Surrounded by a working winery and situated at the end of a dirt road in the quiet hills of Tuscany. We had our own entrance to a 2 story self catering villa. Our view of the castle made walking out of our home for the week all the more spectacular. Furnishings are authentic and characteristic to the area with Italian antiques. Bathrooms are clean and more contemporary. Our family of 5 used this location to explore many different areas of Tuscany and to attend a wedding near Florence. We felt it was centrally located for our itinerary as many of the popular hill towns are within an equal radius. After our long journey from the US, We took advantage of the lovely dinner and breakfast at the property on the first night. It was lovely, welcoming and delicious. Unfortunately, the weather did not allow us to enjoy the beautiful pool area during our stay. One of the suggestions I would have for guests interested in staying here would to make sure your car is higher off the ground to navigate the bumpy dirt road to the Borgo. Our rental was low profile and it was difficult not to "bottom out" or scrape the underside of the vehicle on many spots along the way to and from the main road. The staff was always available and helpful for suggestions and recommendations for other dining in the region, directions, etc. The best internet is located in the lobby which is decorated with comfortable sofas and lovely art. Since it is difficult, this day and age, to disconnect from necessary responsibilities at home, it would be nice if WiFi connectivity could be attained in the rooms. Being able to communicate enables us to travel more. Realistically, what makes this place so special is the warmth and hospitality of the hosts. We felt like we were part of the family and would definitely consider staying here again.

We had a wonderful time at this property. Our family of six fit perfectly with the layout and amenities of Bucine Limonaia. Marianna was a wonderful host and the location was perfect for day trips in Tuscany. The atmosphere was very peaceful and rejuvenating while allowing easy access to sites in the area. We would have no hesitation staying here again during our next visit to the region. Great memories! [Thank you so much, we are happy you enjoyed your stay! The Italy Perfect Team]

I wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know that our trip to Tuscany and Rome was wonderful. Your help and your website really made our trip run very smoothly. We found Bucine to be a wonderful, serene spot in the Tuscan hills and being off the beaten path only added to the magic. The accommodations were beautiful, clean and well tended. Dinner and breakfast were tasty. Antonella is personable, kind and attentive. Her suggestions for dinner and towns to explore were spot on. We would be very happy to go back. Thank you for connecting us with a special place.

This is our fifth trip to Bucine and as always we were welcomed and treated royally. We come off season, so we were the only guests at this time, it was very quiet and private. The apartment we rented is for two people and is just perfect with a small fireplace, adequate kitchen with a stove and oven. It is very clean and very well maintained. The staff is always available if you have questions and they have good recommendations. There are many hiking trails if you like that sort of thing, and Florence is and Arezzo are a 30 minute drive away, Cortona is about 45 minutes away. I would recommend shopping in the small shops in downtown Bucine, you need to check the store hours, but they have an excellent meat market and fruit and vegetable market. The Coop store at the top of the hill is not that great. We will definitely return, hopefully next fall. [We so appreciate your repeat business and your fondness for Bucine! The Italy Perfect Team]

Bucine Limonaia Review

by Rick Deines
Never having visited Italy or Tuscany before, the vast beauty was overwhelming. The remote nature of Tenuta Lupinari only enhanced that sense. The accomomdations were not only adequate but difficult to describe even with picture to our friends and family here in the U.S. We were treated with great respect by the stafff. We had several requests and they were attended to immediately and with gentleness and concern. It woud have been to our advantage to have used their restaurant facitlies more than we did. Going to other locations, for instance nearby Ambra opened up numerous excellent dining choices, but missing the special cooking at Lupinari is our loss. Next time! I have previously commented that by coming at the beginnin gof the low season meant that for four of our seven days we were the only guests. This allowed the staff more flexibiity but also left us isolated betweeen 9 pm and 9 am. Nothing like utter silence and darkness away from everything and everybody to spark one's imagination of 'creepy things in the night.' Our day trips to Montapulciano, Montalcino, Venice, Florence, Sienna and Orvieto were made with ease, especially from the Bucine Train Station.. (a ticket machine, no staff there, but many trains throughout the day to make it convenient.) There are two vineyards within a short and easy drive that we would highly recommend for atmosphere, wine tasting and local conversation--Fattoria Casabianca Agriturismo, Miglarina, and a third, Felsina. Il campo in Sienna is a surprise treat among the many delights of Tuscany. Thumbs up to Italy Perfect! Thx

Bucine Limonaia Review

by Mia and T.C. Schultz
Overall, our family had a wonderful week at Bucine Limonaia. The unit we stayed in was spacious and our daughters 21 and 16, enjoyed having their own bedrooms, which they don't always have when we travel! While the bedrooms had A/C, the downstairs area, which included the kitchen, dining area and living room, were all extremely hot, resulting in the fact that we didn't spend a lot of time in these areas. Ceiling fans would be a wise investment. The kitchen needs more lighting as it was quite dark. The entire staff at the lodging/resort/castle were extremely kind and helpful and treated their guests very well. The cook was wonderful and we enjoyed several dinners on site as well as some breakfasts when we were too lazy to cook on our own. The info. binder with local restaurants and shops that is in the apartment, needs to be updated as we went to one restaurant that had closed and had been replaced by another restaurant. The setting was exquisite! While we did our fair share of sightseeing around Tuscany, we also spent some wonderful family "down time" reading by the pool and relaxing. Bucine is located in the perfect spot of Tuscany as there is so much to see in the area and you don't have to drive too far to get to your destination. We would definitely recommend Italy Perfect to our friends. [We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay. It is true that only the bedrooms have A/C, as stated in the information on the website. We'll advise the manager to update the information binder, thanks for letting us know.]

Driving up the dirt road through an avenue of poplar trees with vineyards and olive trees in view we knew if was going to be a memorable stay. Emerging from within the trees was the castle which is within the property. Everyday we would marvel at the view from our villa over the Chianti hills and spent many hours swimming in the expansive pool overlooking countryside and the view of the castle. The villas were spacious and beautifully presented and the owners were welcoming and charming. The central location of the villas meant we could visit many Tuscan towns which we did after lunch each day returning later that day. We cannot wait to return.

Bucine Limonaia Review

This was a very roomy and comfortable, even luxurious, property for our party of 4 adults. The apartments were not in the castle, but in an area behind the castle. The apartment was lovely, well-appointed, and clean and well-maintained. The kitchen was the most disappointing aspect of the apartment as it was small and not well-equipped for food preparation. The lighting throughout the apartment was dim, but I think this is true in all of Italy, as electricity is very expensive there. The location was beautiful, the grounds were delightful and well-landscaped with a large swimming pool, and the Tuscan countryside is breathtaking. There were spacious outdoor areas for sitting and visiting and enjoying the air and sunshine, but the mosquitos! If you go, be sure to take a bug repellent. We were surprised to find the property was a working farm producing olive oil and wine from their own olive groves and vineyards. We were there at harvest time for the grapes which was interesting to watch. The location was more remote than we thought, no warning given about the dirt road. From the description, we assumed there was a village up the hill from the castle, but the old "village" had been turned into the resort apartments, so there was no village per se. To get bread and provisions, we had to drive to Bucine, probably only 15 minutes away, so no big problem, as we drove out to sightsee everyday anyway. The apartment did not have Wi-Fi, but it was available in the lobby. We were there at the beginning of the off-season, and the lobby wasn't always open when we needed it. We certainly had no regrets about renting this beautiful accommodation, and we thank Italy Perfect for making it possible. [Thank you so much for your kind review. We are delighted you enjoyed the location and the stay. Yes, there are mosquitoes in Italy so we inform all guests in their documentation and recommend bringing some personal repellent. Fortunately the bedroom windows have screens, an unusual amenity in Tuscany. Most Tuscan properties are reached by dirt road, but we'll advise future guests. Sorry you thought the apartment was in the castle, it isn't as you can see in the photos. The village of Bucine is a 10 minute drive, personally tested. The Italy Perfect Team]

Bucine Limonaia Review

by A Family of Five
We stayed in Bucine Limonaia for a week in August. It was perfect! It was a little difficult to find because signage is not great, but it was such a charming place! You drive past fields of sunflowers and vineyards, and through a tree lined road to get there. The grounds are well maintained and beautiful. The staff is wonderful and so helpful, which is the main reason we chose to stay here rather than in a solitary villa somewhere else. They helped us make reservations, coffee, gave us dining and travel advice,... Really, I felt like I was in the office every morning asking another question, and they were always friendly and ready to help me in any way they could. A+ for service! The pool was very nice to have because it was so hot in August! (Same for the A/C) The meals at the restaurant taken outside on the patio were outstanding, some of the best we had in Italy! They were also fantastic about my Gluten Free needs. My kids took the cooking class and we all dined on the patio of the castle. A special treat we all enjoyed! We also had a wonderful dinner nearby at a farmhouse/agrotourism spot in San Leolino which we would recommend, especially for Gluten Free travelers. We were able to travel to many towns in Tuscany with no problem, but it did take us longer than we expected since we didn't know where we were going, where to park once we got there, etc. We did have trouble finding a laundromat, but were able to get by without it. There was a dry cleaners though, actually 2 in Bucine. Overall, we LOVED our stay at Bucine Limonaia and would absolutely recommend it.

My husband and I spent a week in late October at Bucine Limonaia with our two grown children and their "significant others." We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The accommodations were attractive, spacious, comfortable, and very clean; it was particularly nice to have a bathroom (with stall shower!)for each couple. The grounds were lovely and meticulously maintained. The staff were uniformly helpful, with particularly excellent restaurant recommendations. Don't miss the Osteria Alle Corte di Bacco in nearby Ambra and La Bottega di Duddova in the tiny hilltop village of Duddova, also close by. Another suggestion from the staff that we are very glad we followed: don't drive into Florence. We had a car and used it to visit the smaller Tuscan towns, but driving/parking in the city isn't worth the trouble. The trains from Bucine are frequent, they get you there in an hour, and the city is very walkable. A caution: if you visit in cool weather, use the heat in the unit sparingly--it is VERY expensive and will eat up your security deposit in no time. Other minor quibbles that would lead me to give the place 4.5 stars rather than 5: we found the dishwasher in the unit temperamental, the wifi in the common area was down for half our stay, and the the unit's living and dining areas could use an additional lamp or two. But these are trivial matters in the overall scheme of things, and I wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend Bucine Limonaia to anyone looking to spend time in the gorgeous Chianti countryside.

The villa in Tuscany worked out really well. With 4 daughter, 2 older and 2 toddlers the larger accommodations were perfect. We really enjoyed exploring the Tuscan region. Each day was a new adventure as we drove our Ford van here and there seeing the sights. We originally thought that we would relax and spend more time at the villa but ended up putting over 500 miles on the van that week alone. No problems, but did lose our security deposit when my wife and daughter decided to blow-up the cooktop. Long story, quite funny really. Loved the location and surrounding area. May have been a little too remote for us. But having the car really helped. Most of the local restaurants were good and had friendly service. Each little town seemed to have its own specialties and it was fun to explore each to see the differences. We visited, Aretzo, Siena, San Giminagno, Mont Riggioni, the Chianti region, Montevarchi, and several others. (town names spelled to best of my memory) Tips: Recommend using a GPS unit when driving the area. Usually very accurate but at times put us into some strange situations that all turned out to be fun and exciting. Tip 2 don't cook on top of the glass cover of the range, that's not what it is there for. Thank you for all your help. We will not hesitate to recommend you to others.

We just wanted you to know that we had a totally fabulous time at Borgo Bucine last week. We also were fortunate to have lovely weather, and thoroughly enjoyed our daytrips to Pisa, Siena, Montepulciano, and Arrezzo. We also visited one of the local wineries, Poggio Molina (website is www.poggiomolina.it) whom the owners recommended. This was one of the highlights of our trip....the vineyards are gorgeous and the wine cellar and tasting room was beautiful. It's run by a local family, and they even sent us back with a gift of wine for recommending them (we bought two cases of red and one of white). ...everything else was perfect...we loved the layout of the villa (Fienile) and the furniture is beautiful. Thanks again for all of your help and advice and I would love to return to Italy again soon. Thank you

We returned from Italy late Saturday night. I must tell you -- Borgo Bucine was spectacular. Your directions were terrific and the family was lovely. I got especially friendly with Antonella. My daughter fell in love with their dogs. So, thanks for hand picking a lovely villa for us. We had a wonderful and relaxing trip. Tuscany is a very special place. The Italian people--even more special. It can get unbearably hot in the summer. We may have hit an unusually hot spell, but it did put a damper on our enjoyment. We had several days of 95-100 degree weather. Brutal. If people have a choice, they should choose May or October. There were soooooo many tourists, it was crazy. When I travel, I like to spend time with the people who live in the area. Not people like me! Anyway, Antonella suggested three "tourist free" places for us that I loved. Thanks for great tips. Oh, we ate in a place that you recommended. I don't have the name right now but it was about a block away from the Piazza della Signoria. Wonderful food. NO TOURISTS!! Grazie,
