Location
South of Naples, the Sorrento Massa Lubrense promontory forms the southern arm of the beautiful bay of Naples. Since the 1800s, Sorrento has been a vacation choice for the rich and famous. It sits on a cliff so there are few sandy beaches. Breathtaking Mediterranean views encompass a prized perspective on the fabled Isle of Capri.
A curving road leads down from the Amalfi Coast road past a number of villas. Villa Mare is at the end of the road, as close to the sea as one can get here.
It is 80 steps down to the water where you will find ladder down into the clear, blue-green water. It is a public beach.
There are sea walls to calm the waters close to shore and a jetty where you can bring in a boat. You may hire a boat to take you out on the water and to the islands of Capri and Ischia.
We really enjoy the short walk to Marina della Lobra along the sea-side path. It is the charming nearby fishing village with several casual restaurants and dock where you may rent boat service.
Exterior
Villa Mare has a large terrace overlooking the sea.
Villa Mare is one level above the street level where you may park 2 cars.
Above and set back from Villa Mare is Sole, a six bedroom villa.
Interior
You can enter onto the terrace next to the villa entrance and immediately begin to enjoy the spectacular view of the Mediterranean sea. On the left is a platform with the large outside dining table that seats eight. The terrace has areas that are open to the sun and others that have rush sun shades.
The living room has a sofa and four arm chairs. The dining area is open to the living room. Cool white walls and chair covers offset pretty turquoise tile and mosaic floors.
The living room and bedrooms are air-conditioned.
The kitchen continues with the same turquoise tiles as in the dining room. It has everything a cook needs with large (for Italy) refrigerator/freezer, microwave, four burner stove top and dishwasher.
There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
One set of linens is included in the price. Additional linen changes available for a fee.

Accessibility/Security: 20 steps from street level to the apartment and 80 steps to the water's edge.
Payment: Upon reserving, 30% of the total rent is non-refundable.

Pay on arrival: €400 deposit, refundable less €300 final cleaning, €50 midstay cleaning, A/C as consumed and heat @ €30/day.

Glorious and peaceful vacation!
by CatherineMy family of 6 enjoyed this beautiful villa. Amazing views of Capri and the ocean and only a ten minute walk to Massa Lubresse. Sorento is a close drive and we visited Amalifi, Positano, and Ischia via boat tours. The food is super delicious and we would definitely return. Pat and the other ladies at Italy perfect provided so much information to help us plan our stay. All your help was much appreciated and we are grateful for your hospitality.
It Was Heaven
by MeredithWe've just returned from a week at Villa Mare and it was heaven. Plenty of room to relax, and a terrific location, perfectly situated between Sorrento and Positano. We rented a car in Sorrento and drove ourselves around locally (we would suggest hiring a driver for Positano or Amalfi. And make sure not to rent a giant passenger van, as it will be too unwieldy for an inexperienced driver on those narrow, winding roads). We toured Amalfi, Positano, and Ravello, did a day trip to Pompeii and Herculaneum (leave early in the morning to avoid gnarly traffic), and took a day trip to Capri. We also spent a day scuba diving with Punta Campanella diving- they're located right in the marina at Marina Lobrano and it was an easy walk. But our favorite days were those we spent down by the beach, walking to Marina Lobrano for dinner (have the gnocci at San Michele) and breakfast (Angelo's is great), and relaxing on the beautiful terrace. Massa Lubrense is a beautiful town and we so enjoyed walking around the square, even going to the grocery store was interesting and fun. The villa was perfect for our family of 6, had everything we needed and more, and we were lulled to sleep each night by the sound of waves right below us. Our Third Time - Sunsets Spectacular
by RosannaThis was our third time staying at this property. We stayed at Villa Mare twice and Villa Sole( upstairs property) once. The house was clean, spacious, and beautifully decorated. The sunsets from our large patio were spectacular! The views of Capri and Ischia were breathtaking. We enjoyed our walks on the beach and to the nearby restaurants at the quaint Marina della Lobra. The food was delicious and the service excellent. We found this to be a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. It was easy enough to drive from here to Sorrento or other towns along the Amalfi coast. Massa Lubrense was a welcome respite from the busy tourist filled areas of other Italian cities. Being able to book the reservation and make payments in American dollars with a reputable person like our Italy Perfect agent was one of the reasons we keep using Italy Perfect! The View is Gorgeous
by MBThe photos are accurate -- the view is gorgeous, with Capri always visible. The unit is about 60 feet above the water. The kitchen, while small, is usable. The deck is huge, with a table seating 8 where we ate most of our breakfasts and some lunches. It was very quiet at night. My only criticism is that the shower in the master bedroom was quite uncomfortable, with no water pressure and less room. The shared bathroom had a better one. The location is quite good -- it's a 5 minute drive from "downtown" Massa Lubrense, which is a nice small town with food shops. Sorrento is a 20-30 minute drive. There are many good restaurants in the area, with two decent ones a 1km walk along the water in Marina della Lobra. Italy Perfect was a pleasure to deal with. I wouldn't recommend this for those with bum knees or hips due to the steep, narrow stairs
Amazingly Beautiful and Tranquil Villa
by Mary BThe Villa Mare at San Montano is an amazingly beautiful and tranquil villa situated just outside Sorrento with quaint winding roads leading down to the sea. Waking up every morning to beautiful views of the Med and the Isle of Capri, and ending every evening with splendid sunsets was truly magical.
I Did Not Ever Want to Leave!!!
by Rosanna CVilla Mare was the perfect place for my family of 6. I was so happy we stayed in peaceful Massa Lubrense instead of busy Sorrento. It was still close enough to Sorrento if we wanted to visit. I did not ever want to leave!!! The home itself was beautiful with wonderful views of the sea. There was a quaint harbor nearby with some very delightful restaurants. Everything we needed was here. It was the perfect italian villa.
Every Day We Swam in the Warm Sea
by Nancy DThe Villa was everything you said it would be and more. We kept very busy sightseeing but every day we swam in the warm sea. Jim managed to find his ancestor's hometown, a long but fulfilling day trip. We even learned how to make lemoncello.
