Large and luxe, the Valentina apartment boasts super-elegant location and tasteful décor in Rome's fine Spanish Steps area surrounded by fantastic restaurants, cafes and boutiques.

Location

On the corner of Via Condotti in Rome, the Valentina apartment is in the heart of all that is elegant in the Eternal City. A two minute walk puts you in front of the Spanish Steps, a location that is so popular because it is so central. We enjoy staying in this area for its great designer shopping, people watching, array of restaurants, proximity to popular sites and convenient transportation.

Exterior

The building mirrors the neighborhood, a proper "palazzo" built about 250 years ago when the Princes Torlonia were amassing their fortunes by managing the fortunes of the Vatican and built the palace across the street.

The apartment adjoins the Renata apartment that, if available, can be rented at the same time for larger groups. There is also the Zegno apartment two floors up.

Interior

Space and quiet elegance typify this apartment. Four large windows light the living room, two look up Via Condotti towards the Spanish Steps and two overlook Hotel d`Inghilterra and via Bocca di Leone.

Two sofas are grouped by the working, gas fireplace that features stonework from the ancestral home in southern Italy. The hand-hewn ceiling beams have been exposed to display the room as it was originally designed. Also in the living room are some fine antique pieces, a sideboard, a desk, and a long dining table that will seat eight. The living room has a television with satellite reception.

From the large entry, one can enter the living room, the large bedroom 1 or proceed down the hallway to laundry, kitchen, small bedroom and second large bedroom. There is a day-beds in 2 of the bedroom that can be prepared for an extra fee, please inquire. The hallway has floor to ceiling French doors that open over a railing onto the internal courtyard. It is a great way of bringing in cooling breezes and the warm Roman weather.

Off the hall is a nook that contains a washing machine across the hall from the well-lit, galley-style kitchen.

Believe Valentina’s Fabulous Reviews!

by David Emsley

The Valentina apartment for our 2 couples exceeded all our expectations, in all aspects…from our original booking process, our greeting upon check-in with our hosts, it’s incredible location, and the size, layout, and tasteful furnishings of this magnificent well-maintained apartment. Considering Valentina’s location we were pleased with how quiet the bedrooms were. Grocery shopping, bakeries, wine stores, cafe’s were all within steps of Valentina, including of course the Spanish Steps and Via dei Condotti a block away. Most of Rome’s major attractions were within walking distance, with a gelato in hand. Now we have enjoyed great experiences with Paris Perfect in August and Italy Perfect in October. Looking forward already to another Vacation Perfect experience next year.

This was everything we hoped for.

by Todd Frager

Italy Perfect exceeded our expectations. We used them in Venice, Rome and Florence. Pat and the Italy Perfect team did everything possible to ensure we picked the right properties and looked after us from the time we booked to the time we departed. This was everything we hoped for visiting another country. Handled COVID delays and the constant confusing rule changes. I will recommend them to friends and anyone visiting Italy. Thank you Italy Perfect! You made our trip memorable, relaxing and enjoyable

The apartment was amazing

by Jackie

We stayed in the Valentina apartment in the Spanish Steps area of Rome during the week of Dec 14. The apartment was amazing - beautiful, in a perfect location, a working gas fireplace (we used this everyday - not because we were cold but just for the atmosphere) and just very charming. It was literally around the block from the Spanish Steps (and fyi - there is a metro stop right at the Spanish Steps) and the area was perfect - if we opened the windows we could hear street musicians when they came out at night (eg, opera, sax players) which I loved. ItalyPerfect was great for us - they provided all the necessary information plus more and the greeter was very kind and accommodating and spent a lot time going over all the information in the area plus the apartment. Her restaurant recommendations were very good especially Osteria 31 which was delicious and very authentic. We were just down the street from a food store and bakery which we went to each morning. In addition, we used the driver service and tour guides recommended by Italy Perfect and all were amazing. I would definitely recommend Italy Perfect and the Valentina apartment.

Location near the Spanish Step was perfect

by PW

My husband and I loved the Renata apartment. The location near the Spanish Step was perfect and although we were in Rome during a heat wave the apartment's air conditioning held up just fine...which is not always the case in Rome. The preplanning Italy Perfect did was right on target. We also rented the Valentina and Zegno apartments as we had twelve in our group. All the apartments were as advertised, although it's a bit difficult to hear the bell or buzzer in the Zegno apartment as you have to enter past the manager's office and the door was always closed. I had groceries delivered to each apartment in advance, although the grocery store is just a very short 5 min walk and it's easy to go and get exactly what you want. Because we were a large group I made some dinner reservations and these restaurants stood out in the area and treated us well. Al 34 and Il Gabriella. If the adults want to get away AD Hoc is a great place, small and reservations a must. We used Family Twist to arrange our group tours and I can't say enough about them, they were wonderful. I have used Italy Perfect and Paris Perfect and highly recommend them to anyone.

Everything you could ask for.

by Scott

This was our second stay in this apartment. It was very comfortable for our family of 6. It has everything you could ask for. Bakery shop two blocks for morning pasteries. Grocery a block further. Easy walking to all of the sites - uphill to the Borghese, easy stroll to the Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum and the Forum. The walk to the Vatican included a short stop for coffee. Excellent restaurants in walking distance. We especially enjoyed the Ristorante da Edy, recommended by our tour guide. The best gelato was Fatamorgana Corso, an easy stroll towards the Piazza de Popolo. And don't miss the amazing art in the Basilica Santa Maria in the Piazza.Italy Perfect connected us with Rocco who picked us up at the airport. Later in the week he sent a car for the trip to Florence. For the group of 6 this was faster, a bit cheaper, and much more convenient than the train. We will return. [We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay again! We look forward to working with you in the future for another trip! The Italy Perfect Team]

Excellent location

by Tricia

My extended family of six had a wonderful stay at Valentina in February. Four adults and two kids felt each had enough space to feel comfortable, both in the bedrooms and in the beautiful living room area. The location is excellent - easy walk to Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona and nice walk to Forum, Vatican, Trastevere, Coliseum. Great restaurants right outside door. The property is very well maintained, tastefully decorated yet homey at same time. Would definitely recommend Valentina highly.

Ideal setting for a family get together.

by Steve

My family and I spent a lovely 8 days in the Valentina and Renata apartments that form a huge living space for the 8 of us to enjoy. The apartments are comfortable, well-appointed and HUGE for this area of Rome. We loved the cozy fireplaces in the living rooms as well as the 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. What an ideal setting for a family get together. Our host was delightful as was the greeter. We felt extremely welcome and cared for. The apartments are quiet even though we are just a block off the Via Condotti. You couldn’t ask for a better location to explore Rome from. There are numerous great restaurants in the area and most major sights are walkable. Italy Perfect has once again made our Rome stay memorable!

The location of the apartment was ideal for walking to Rome's beautiful sites. The decoration in the apartment was a bit much (not to my liking) and the kitchen was very small but we didn't use it anyway. The owner had a book regarding nearby restaurants and shops which was useful. I would say that the recommendation for Cafe Greco should have stated how expensive it was. I paid 14 euro for a cannoli and 9 euro for a cappuccino- outrageous so beware! You also have to pay a personal tax for staying in Rome about 4 euro/day. The location was great and Rome was awesome. I would recommend Italy Perfect to friends. [The Rome Hospitality Tax is currently €3.50/pp/day and this information was in all of the information before reserving and several reminders the guest received prior to her stay.]

We enjoyed the central yet quiet location of the apartment in Rome. Shops, restaurants, and public transportation (if needed) were all so close. Two of the three rooms/bathrooms were quite spacious as was the living room. We had ample storage and were able to settle in quite comfortably. The caretaker who is in the same building was very kind and spiffed up our apartment for us every day (thank you!). Our only pointers would be that families with very young children or elderly guests be aware that there are mini single steps throughout the apartment that can pose quite a hazard (we had several trips on one in particular). Also, the third bedroom with the loft is suitable for an adolescent or preteen, but probably not someone much younger (the bathroom is across the hall, so not ideal for young ones who need to use one in the middle of the night) or older (quite small). The loft in that room is a good hangout space but not for sleeping (small and mattress is actually a bumpy cushion). The kitchen is great for snacks or a light breakfast, but cooking an actually meal in it (both in terms of size as well as appointments - very few dishes, refrigerator is a dorm-sized fridge) does not seem realistic. We enjoyed our stay and appreciated being able to stay in accommodations that were more comfortable for a family than a cramped hotel room.

For our group of ten we rented these two contiguous apartments and turned them into a single unit by unlocking the door between the to units. It worked perfectly well for our group's size and we could all fit around the dining table in Valentina. Everything was in good shape and the kitchens were sufficiently outfitted with the exception that they need to buy a few frying pans. Super location perfect for extended family groups.

This apartment was perfect! It was a lovely apartment, an ideal location, with a friendly host. We had plenty of room to spread out. (We were a group of 5 adults ranging in age from 21 to 80, with a group of friends staying on one of the other apts in the bldg.) The wifi in our apartment worked fine. Restaurant and grocery store recommendations were great. Advice: Book your site-seeing tickets early on-line or with the guide recommended thru Italy Perfect. The Vatican and the Borghese museum tickets sell out several weeks in advance .

Our family of 6(4 adults and 2 children, ages 11 and 9) met in Rome prior to a Mediterranean Cruise. Our stay in the Valentina apartment was wonderful! The location was incredible...just steps away from The Spanish Steps and so centrally located we could walk to all the historic sites and exquisite shopping. We stocked the fridge with basic essentials... juice, milk ,cheeses, coffee, etc...from the market a few yards away. Each morning, as we planned our day's activities, we delighted in a lovely breakfast in the apartment consisting of pastries from the bakery/café in the next block, cereal, bread, cheeses, coffee. The 3 bedrooms and 3 baths allowed everyone more than enough space and privacy. It was an extra bonus to have the washer for the clothes. There was no dryer, but the clothes rack worked surprisingly well! We have previously stayed in Paris Perfect apartments and have never been disappointed. Our stay in this Italy Perfect apartment did not disappoint either. I have already, and will continue to recommend Italy Perfect to friends.

We spent 10 amazing nights at what became our home away from home at Valentina and loved every minute. The apartment was exactly as advertised and we were very comfortable. Our 9 year old loved sleeping in the loft (best for kids) and we found the flat very comfortable, spacious, well-equipped and perfectly located. The violinist on the corner serenaded us nightly as we opened the large windows in the living room to look out over the street and let the fresh air in with sounds and smells of Roma. Pat was very helpful from start to finish and everything Italy Perfect provided and recommended was spot on. Staying in an apartment is the way to go and this place is worth every penny. We also love Stefano if you need a driver. As for eats, we made repeated trips to Antica Enoteca on Villa de Croce for great pizzas and pastas and to Ciampini for gelato and treats at Piazza San Lorenzo. Yes we would highly recommend Italy Perfect. Grazie Mille!

This is a lovely place to stay.

by Tanya Bednarski

My family of 5 (including 3 teenagers) spent 5 nights in Rome, staying at the Valentina apartment near the Spanish steps. The apartment was spacious, very comfortable (the air conditioning was fabulous during the heat wave we encountered) and extremely well situated for visiting the city. It is 2 blocks from the Metro station and cab stand, close to lots of restaurants and shops, including a grocery store where we stocked up on breakfast items. The owner met us at the apartment (we called from the Rome airport), oriented us to the place and helped out when needed (wi fi went down one day - very important to teenagers). With a family this size, staying in an apartment makes the visit so much more enjoyable. This is a lovely place to stay. We didn't really cook - the kitchen was small by American standards but worked well for our needs. We tried restaurants recommended by the owner and in Rick Steves' guidebook (all good) and found a great one on our own (at the corner of Via Margutta and via del Fontenella, near Piazza del Poplo. Italy Perfect handled all the details beautifully. Thank you Lisa.

We stayed 5 days in the Valentina apartment near the Spanish Steps in July of 2011. The property location is outstanding and is within walking distance of everything other than the Vatican area. We had 2 families and the apartment provided us with plenty of room both from a sleeping standpoint but also from a living area standpoint. The owner and the host who we at the property were great and very helpful. Italy perfect who we booked the property through were outstanding. They provided us with some excellent information before we arrived and gave us excellent restaurant recommendations. We would definitely recommend both Italy Perfect and the Valentina apartment.

We have just spent a wonderful week in Rome, where by far and away, the most enjoyable part of our trip was the Accommodation and the wonderful assistance we had from Marcella who lives 2 floors above. We were a group of 4 who all enjoy cooking and this Apartment accommodated us perfectly in that regard, with the luxurious surrounds together with a wonderful fruit/veg market and gourmet deli not 100m from our doorstep. If this is your gig and you are staying at this wonderful home, head down to the deli and buy some spinach and ricotta ravioli (made fresh daily), a small tub of basil pesto (also from this gem and homemade), a wedge of reggiano and some salad greens from the market and you have a dinner to remember. You will obviously need to pair your wines and we chose many with the aperitif being a bottle of Moet @ 30 euro from the supermarket 20m further on from where you will buy your salads!! I cannot recommend Valentina highly enough, forget the 5 star hotels and treat yourself.

It is a truly special place.

by Dean & Karen

We just returned from spending Thanksgiving in Rome where our son was spending a college semester studying abroad, and had the great fortune to discover Italy Perfect and Lisa Byrne as we were searching for an apartment. We were originally booked for another apartment through Italy Perfect, but due to an unexpected construction matter, Lisa informed us that we had the option of staying at the beautiful Valentina apartment near the Spanish Steps. We were staying for 11 nights, and were going to move to the 2 bedroom Renata apartment next door after the first 6 nights as some of our traveling companions were returning home, and we no longer needed the 3 bedrooms and 3 baths. The incredibly charming owner of the apartments arrived and offered to let us stay in the larger Valentina apartment for the entire 11 nights at no additional cost. The entire experience could not have been better. The apartment is beautiful, spacious and in the perfect location in Rome. High ceilings, fabulous antiques, beautiful carpets, new bathrooms with a jetted tub and heated towel racks, a working gas fireplace to enjoy a glass of wine beside, large windows that open to the beautiful streets below, and very functional kitchen and laundry. We celebrated Thanksgiving with 15 friends who also had children studying in Rome, and the apartment was perfect. The space easily accommodated the group. It is a truly special place. Everything is within walking distance. The street is a pedestrian street, so it was quiet at night time, except for the wonderful violinist out on the corner. Great restaurants of all price ranges are withing minutes of the apartment, as well as markets. Via Condotti is a very short block away with the most spectacular designer stores. The daily housekeeping by Nelly was a real treat. We really cannot say enough about how great Italy Perfect, Lisa, Marcella and the apartment all are. We will definitely contact Lisa again for our next trips to Italy, France or London. Many thanks for helping make our trip to Roma so special.

Just got back a couple weeks ago from a wonderful stay at the Valentina apartment. Working with Italy Perfect was, well, perfect. Lisa was very responsive to all of our questions and gave us plenty of useful information in preparation for our trip. The location was great. Even though it got quite crowded just a couple streets away, the area right by the apartment was always uncrowded and relatively quiet. Positives: Apartment was very spacious and clean. It had almost everything we needed (except for minor things like napkins and washcloths). Beds were very comfortable. Marcella, the woman who owns the apartment, lives in the same building and was very pleasant. There are a ton of restaurants and shops very near by, as well as a daily fruit and vegetable market just down the street. There is an elevator in the building which was quite welcome after long days filled with walking. It's small, only two people can fit. But the stairs weren't bad as an alternative, with the apartment being on the third floor. Negatives: The back bedroom got quite a lot of noise at night. We could hear the people walking and talking upstairs, and were also awakened by a dog barking, baby crying, and birds (of all things) in the middle of the night. This is not said to discourage anyone from staying here - I think these are typical noises you will encounter living in an apartment anywhere. I am just mentioning it to make sure future dwellers are prepared! Bring some earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The smallest bedroom has a "loft", which is accessed by a ladder and really only has room for the mattress. I think it would be adventuresome for children, but quite undesirable for an adult. Additionally, the shower in the corresponding bathroom was TINY and did not get used at all by us. The apartment was a joy to come back to every night and we are so glad we chose to stay there. We would recommend the apartment without hesitation!

Valentina apartment exceeded our expectations. The location, in a "pedestrian only" area near the Spanish Steps, has to be one of the best in Rome. Restaurants, caffes, wine shops and groceries are a short walk. Naturally our wives were ecstatic when they realized the exclusive shops of Via Condotti were just a few meters from our door. The sparkling clean interior is very well appointed with many pieces from the owner's family home. Although in a busy area, with no autos, it was very quiet for sleeping. The owner, who lives two floors above, and her assistant were very attentive. We are already planning a return stay at the Valentina apartment in 2010.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed the first leg of our Italian vacation in Rome. Our beautiful apartment, Valentina, was exceptionally situated in an exciting part of the city. The metro was easily accessable as were many cafes. We enjoyed watching the people, shopping and becoming part of the fabric of the Piazza de Spagna neighborhood. My personal favorite was coming home in the hot afternoon from touring to recover for the evening. At dusk almost every evening, a sole violinest played on the street corner below. His melodies wafted through the buildings making their way to my window above. I sat enjoying the scene below and was transported to another time. Valantina was a well appointed, comfortable place to come home to. We look forward to visiting again and returning to these wonderful accomdations.

It was so welcoming at the end of a busy day of shopping and touring to sit with a glass of wine and review the events of the day. Location was central to the sites we visited (Vatican Museum, Pantheon, Colosseum, Trevi Fountain) and it was nice to have the metro only a few blocks away. Rome is an amazing city. The history, the architecture, the art, the food, the people are fabulous. We hope to return for a longer stay and venture out to other parts of Italy as well. I highly recommend Italy Perfect.

Dear Pat,I just wanted to send you a little note to tell you about our fabulous trip to Rome. It was much more than I expected . I can not wait to return and spend more time exploring. First, the apartment was perfect for us. Our hostess was is lovely and couldn't have been nicer. I felt very comfortable and at home in the apartment. It is very well equipped, even though I didn't cook it was nice to have breakfast and it was fun going to the market and experiencing the Roman way of life. Loved the area. I feel very confident in referring your services to friends. We were a little apprehensive renting, but after such a wonderful experience I really feel it is the perfect way to spend a holiday with family. You obviously have great taste and I will be in touch with you for future rentals. Maybe, Paris next year. Thank you again. Anne Marie

The apartment was beautiful, spacious and very comfortable. Marcella greeted us upon arrival and was very gracious. She was always available for any questions or issues. We absolutely loved the location and couldn't stop commenting on how beautiful the neighborhood is. While the neighborhood is very upscale, there are still many casual and inexpensive restaurants in the neighborhood. We were able to walk everywhere in the city from our neighborhood. The decorations around the city during the Christmas were fabulous and we really enjoyed spending New Year's Eve in Rome. It did seem a little wild that night. We had been told in advance that it would be safe, and it was. We highly recommend Valentina!

As you predicted we were delighted by its location, spaciousness and stylish furnishings. The hostess was charming and the apartment was a fitting place in which to end our European travels. The arrangements all worked perfectly. It was truly superior to the hotel D'Ingelterra next door where I have stayed sometimes on prior business visits. We now appreciate the full value of your recommendation and thank you for offering us this property. We were very happy clients and will no doubt return to your apartments.

Thanks Lisa, we are back from our trip to Italy, and the apartment in Rome was fabulous.  We thoroughly enjoyed having our own Roman home for a few days.  What an ideal location! Thanks for your help in setting up these accommodations.

Rome was the highlight of our trip. This is the 3rd time traveling to Europe with the kids and each time we have the best time. The accommodations were perfect. The apartment was very spacious and comfortable. I'm particular and this apartment worked out beautifully - from the location to the linens and towels. The layout worked out great as well. My son, Tommy (12) loved the small room with the loft and my daughter, Sarah (10) loved having the larger bedroom in the back to her self with the large closet. It's hard to say what we liked the most - for me it was the bed in the master bedroom. The comforter and linens were great and it's the best nights' sleep I had in Italy. The only problems we encountered were the water pressure in the back bathroom shower. The kids used our shower which was fine. [Water pressure is a city-wide issue, maybe that is why Romans prefer baths in tubs. Pat]The location was perfect for us. We walked everywhere, even to the Vatican and the Colosseum. Each night we walked to dinner and back which was great and we loved all of the shopping. Our favorite restaurants were Nino's; Ristorante Mario; and Recafe. I was a big fan of the fresh produce market at the end of the street every morning. The vendors were so cheerful and helpful and the cafe on the way was great. I got pastries for the kids every morning on my way back from the open market. Our greeter did a great job filling in and was very helpful with some recommendations. I will definitely look to using your service again when we go back to Italy - and your sister's if it's London or Paris.

Valentina was nothing short of spectacular.  Marcella was icing on the cake.  I can't recommend it more highly.  Thank you for offering such a wonderful apartment in the heart of Rome.  Our friends were jealous that we found such a jewel.  I have given your name and the apartment info to several of my friends.

Things to See & Do

Spanish Steps (2 mins Walking)
One of the most famous piazzas in the world with the beautiful steps rising from the Barcaccia ("bad boat") fountain to the Trinita dei Monti church. Neighborhood for designer shopping and people-watching.
Trevi Fountain (10 mins Walking)
Beautiful Baroque fountain, the largest in Rome, a city of fountains. Here is where you throw 3 coins over your shoulder to ensure you will return to Rome.
Borghese Gardens (15 mins Walking)
Very large park and gardens in the heart of Rome with walking paths, fountains, ponds, architecture, restaurants and the must-visit Galleria Borghese museum. You can rent bikes and pedal cabs.
Pantheon (15 mins Walking)
Must-visit. This temple to all the gods (pan-theon in Greek) breathes history starting with its architecture from 2000 years ago. It is the only complete monument from Roman times. Built of concrete, the hemispherical roof is of one piece with its hole in the center.
Campo de' Fiori (20 mins Walking)
Large, central piazza with famous and picturesque daily open-air farmer's market, surrounded by restaurants. Famous statue of philosopher Giordano Bruno burned here for heresy. Young folks gather here in the evenings. Thick with history and in the heart of the city.
Piazza Navona (20 mins Walking)
Iconic piazza of Rome where Romans once raced their chariots. Three beautiful fountains the chief being the Fountain of the Four rivers. Enjoy street musicians and small vendors. Great place to hang out, dine and have a gelato.
St. Peter's Basilica (30 mins Walking)
One of the holiest catholic churches, the church of the Pope. It is very large and filled with inspiring and beautiful art and areas. A tour is recommended.
Vatican Museums (30 mins Walking)
The incomparable art collections of the Popes over the centuries. Unique and historically significant places such as the Sistine Chapel. Tour guide and early arrival are recommended.
